Hug, the checkerboard armchair

Hug by Cristián Mohaded for Meritalia® is an architectural piece composed of intentionally heterogeneous sections. In consonance with the brand's vibrant inconsistency, the sofa and armchair designed by the Argentinian designer are not intended to correct this discontinuity, but rather to embrace it and make it part of the typical everyday living room experience. In the Hug armchair, three checkerboard-shaped modules alternate in an elegant square composition. The soft backrest extends and narrows to become an armrest.

Beyond the comfort of a classic Meritalia® upholstered seat, this project embodies emotional contrasts: solid textured surfaces alternate geometrically with sections of smooth fabric; pairs of colors alternate from neutral tones to brighter ones. All these opposites generate a rhythm, a carefully measured tension thanks to Meritalia®'s technical and artisanal evolution.
